Tibetan Areas & TAR
BEST TIME TO VISIT
The
best time to visit most Tibetan areas is May through October.
The very best months are May/June and August/September, although
Lhasa itself is nice most of the year. While there may be a few
rain showers, the days are usually sunny and temperate. April
and November can vary. December - February aren't the best
months due to the weather, however many independent travelers
like this time of the year when there are no crowds and the
off-season prices save lots of money. This semiarid climate vary
greatly from region to region in a single day. The average annual precipitation is only about 380
mm (about 15 in) and is considerably less in many areas. The southeast areas have
the heaviest precipitation. Temperatures in the mountains and
plateaus can be cool to cold, so always have a jacket on hand. A
small. thin down jacket tied around the waist is always a good
idea. Although winds can be a year-round feature, during August
and September we haven't noticed them distracting us from
anything we wanted to do. The most equable climates are found
around the river valley areas. Check these links for average
annual temperatures and temps during your planned trip times.
Sudden drops in temperature after sunset are characteristic. Be
prepared.
